Shean Lodge Fishery

Ireland

The Beat Two Package - for weekly bookings only:

You will have access to fourteen Named Pools as well as:

Tarsaughaun River
Carrowmore Lake
Trout Lakes

Beat 2 rental commences at 12 midday on Friday and ends at 11.00 AM the following Friday.

There is no accommodation provided as part of the rental of Beat Two. However, we have a list of recommended local accommodation which you can book independently.

Beat Two consists of fourteen named pools which extend for approximately 4 Kms of river, providing fly only angling for 4 rods. The fishery includes both banks except for Roger's pool, which is fished from the west side only.

On the upper river starting at the bridge to Molloy’s pool, there is reasonable access for an active person and again at the lower section of the river between Roger’s and Bridge pools. On the other hand, the central part of the fishery does require the angler to have a degree of physical stamina. The reward for the fit angler is to experience the vastness of the beautiful scenery as his only company; and the chance to catch a fish under the same conditions that would have been experienced by The Reverend Maxwell in his book “Wild Sports of the West." A Guide can be hired for Beat Two at the client's expense.

Tarsaughaun River is a tributary of the Owenduff River can be fished by two Rods by arrangement with our resident Guide. The Shean Lodge Fishery is on the south bank only and extends for about 2 km. It has more than ten recognisable pools. It is often fished if the main river is dirty or too high. The Tarsaughaun (if the gods are with you!) is an unforgettable angling experience. What makes it different is the tumbling water of the mountain stream, where in many places it has cut its way through solid sandstone to get access to the main river. Salmon and sea trout and grilse can be taken. The river begins to fish from mid-May and, if there is a run on the river, can be productive until the end of the season.

Carrowmore Lake is famous for its abundant salmon and sea trout. In the event of poor fishing conditions on the river, a boat is available on Carrowmore Lake as part of the Beat Two package. It can be a rewarding and pleasant break from the river and is only about a half-hour drive from the Lodge, near to the town of Bangor Erris. Boat handling experience is vital for reasons of safety and life jackets are provided and must be worn. A lake guide can be made available as can a boat engine at your own cost. Arrangements to fish the Lake can be made through our resident Guide.

The Trout Lakes. Three Trout Lakes can be fished by arrangement with our resident Guide. They are stocked with brown trout some of which are being taken weighing up to 2 kilos. The most recent stocking was in 2012.

Salmon Pricing: Please see our web site www.sheanlodgefishery.com for all the details on this exceptional wild fishery. The Owenduff River is famous for its run of spring salmon and then later in the year for salmon, grilse and sea trout. It is fed by the Nephin Mountains and flows to the Atlantic Ocean at Srahnamanragh on the Ballycroy/Bangor Erris road. Fished this part of the Owenduff for the first time at the end of March 2013.The owners were generous enough to let me fish both beats as they were not booked. The small flood that had come 3 days earlier had pretty much run off so any success was always going to be an outside chance. What a lovely river to fish, beat1 has lots of slow flowing pools which are ideal for across and down when water levels would be sufficent and a suitable wind. My days were dry and bright with a biting east breeze and frost every night, not coducive to good fishing, never the less I enjoyed my first day. These same pools would be the stuff of dreams with the right wind and fish in for backingup. Beat 2 day 2 is much more of a highland river with long pools, nice runs and lots of outcrops is so full of character and so remote that I would never tire of casting a fly over its surface when the water levels would be right even if the salmon were proving stubbern. Acces is excellent at both beats, for beat 2 you just need to have lots of stamina but after a day walking beat 2 you will definately be feeling the overwhelming desire to visit this fishery again and pray that the rain gods will be looking down on you the day before you go there. The fishery owners were very cordial to deal with and so my thanks to them once again Seamus Nee
